GenieClip Soundproofing – How it works
To gain the maximum performance, when soundproofing a wall, you should attempt to create an independent wall structure that sits in front of the wall you are attempting to soundproof. Lining this wall with GenieClips as your resilient layer will afford the best level of soundproofing performance that we know of.
The key to the superior performance of Clips is the high quality rubber mounting that is integral to the GenieClip. Countless studies point to the enhanced soundproofing performance of rubber over other sound dampeners.
Creating the independence of the wall, even if it is just a few millimetres, can make a significant difference to the end result. If, however, you are unable to make the wall independent you can screw battens to the wall and then add the genie system direct to this. The end result, while not quite as good as an independent wall, will produce an improvement within the 20dB range. If space is at an absolute premium, the solution can be fixed direct to the party wall. Again the acoustic performance will be less. Please see the table and schematic below. Creating a stud wall is simpler than you might think, see our fitting guide on this page for further details. We also offer an SBX upgrade for those looking to absolutely maximise performance.
A number of options for party wall soundproofing are available. From the very slim line stick on solutions to the thicker and more effective independent stud structures. We are frequently asked if resilient bars or GenieClips can be added direct to a party wall to save space. Please see our GenieClip direct to wall page for more information
Don’t forget to soundproof your plug sockets too. You can find out more in this article.
Solution Calculators
We provide a series of calculators below. We offer different combinations of stud wall thickness with different sound proof upgrade possibilities. Click on the calculator and we will work out all the materials you need for a particular solution. In this case you just need to know the size of stud you are going to use. The performance table below indicates the performance of that system
